The Philosophy Café is an open exchange of philosophical ideas led by a University of Regina Philosophy Professor or a Graduate Student. The Café runs each Fall and Winter semester. “The Mind and the Natural World: A Brief History of Thinking” Presented By: Dylan Ludwig, Philosophy and Classics Department, University of Regina The talk takes a brief look at the conceptual history of our thinking about the mind and its place in the natural world. This historical survey makes explicit a long standing and widely held, but mistaken, conceptual assumption that has truly halted progress in the field. Given this deeply rooted conceptual mistake, we can begin to assess the state of current research on the nature of consciousness to see if there are theories or methods that will avoid these sorts of mistaken assumptions, and in turn hopefully identify areas where there is real conceptual innovation in the field, something that is truly needed in the philosophy of mind. The Philosophy Café is open to the general public and all are welcome to attend.

Growth of the soul is our goal, and there are many ways to encourage that growth, such as through love, nature, healing our wounds, forgiveness, and service. The soul grows well when giving and receiving love. I nourish my soul daily by loving others and being vulnerable to their love. Love is, after all, a verb, an action word, not a noun.
