Have A Heart Day is a child and youth-led reconciliation campaign that brings together caring Canadians to help ensure First Nations children have the services they need to grow up safely at home, get a good education, be healthy, and be proud of who they are. From February 8th to 12th, an information table about the inequalities in funding for services for First Nations children will be set up from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in RIC Atrium, along with the opportunity to send letters to MPs and the Prime Minister to encourage them to make necessary changes. Participate in fun, free and education activities scheduled throughout the week including the Blanket Exercise, Cardmaking, Cartooning, Treaty Talk, and a mass mailing of letters to Parliament Hill. This campaign comes 2 weeks following the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal that concluded that First Nations children and families living on reserve and in the Yukon are discriminated against in the provision of child and family services. The Truth and Reconciliation Report also issues a number of calls to action that specifically call for inequalities in First Nations child welfare, education, and health to be addressed.
