Moral Perspectives on Constitutional Reform: Reflections on the November 1981 Constitutional Accord Between Canada and Nine Provinces on its 35th Anniversary. There can be no doubt that moral conceptions of the good and just state are at play in constitutional negotiations, but it is a process conducted by persons in favoured positions pursuing limited interests and ignoring others. The Accord that led to the patriation of the Canadian Constitution in 1982 represents both important national gains and significant losses for valuable perspectives. In this, as in history generally, there is plenty of scope for judging our political past. John Whyte is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Politics and International Studies. He was the Director of Constitutional Law in the Government of Saskatchewan during the Constitutional patriation process and is one of Canada’s leading Constitutional scholars. This event is free and all are welcome to attend!
