Join us for the inaugural lecture in this series as we examine the context of the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21), to be held in Paris from November 30 to December 11, 2015. We are particularly interested in the issues at stake in the negotiations at COP 21, which for many experts represents a turning point for our planet. What are the fundamental challenges of this international conference? Aside from the states, who are the principal players involved in the negotiations? How are Canada and its various provinces positioning themselves in the negotiations? How is scientific expertise being exploited? Made up of many countries around the world, is the Francophonie bringing a distinctive voice to the negotiations? The “Off the Beaten Track / Hors Champs” lecture series invites academics and stakeholders to dialogue with the general public in order to offer various perspectives on a significant contemporary issue: a synthesis of academic discussion, testimony from those working in the field, and critical perspectives. I was raised to volunteer: nursing homes, clinics, church nurseries, school, everywhere that could use help. It’s such an intrinsic part of me, to use my life to help improve the quality of others.
