Dr. Charity Marsh – CRC, Faculty of MAP and Darci Anderson – Principal, Flux School of Human Movement Title: The Promise Of Movement Within the realm of physical and athletic culture there has been a growing trend towards a culture, philosophy and an ethics of movement. The purpose of this talk is to introduce this current investment in a discourse of movement, rather than sport, exercise, or fitness. We suggest that underlying this turn towards movement and the movement arts is a promise – the promise of movement. Drawing on contemporary examples from the disciplines of Capoeira, Parkour, Contemporary Dance, as well as the recent example of the UFC’s Conor McGregor’s inclusion of Ido Portal’s movement practice, we will pose and answer the following questions: What is this promise? What is this promise a response to? And what might it mean to deliver on this promise? More information: http://www.uregina.ca/finearts/events/2016/01/FAPS.html
