Displays, Demonstrations, Door Prizes, Refreshments, Tours and more … 10:30 am FREE Forum on How Rude! with Dr. Ron Martin, Faculty of Education Have you ever marveled at the behavior of others and thought, “How rude!” Further, have you ever wondered what leads people to act in socially inconsiderate ways? If so, you’re not alone! Dr. Ron Martin (Faculty of Education, University of Regina) will be delivering an hour-long talk about socially inconsiderate (RUDE!) behavior. In this presentation, plenty of colorful examples of rude behavior will be described (behaviors that could be described as annoying, intrusive, disgusting, hostile, insensitive, unbelievable, and even hilarious at times!). In addition, many factors that potentially contribute to rude behavior will be examined. Input and feedback from the audience is welcomed and strongly encouraged (as long as it’s delivered politely!). 12:00 pm Welcome and Orientation with LLC Staff and SUG Board Members This forum will provide you with an opportunity to learn more about what the Lifelong Learning Centre is and does, and how you can benefit from being involved in our courses and other activities. You will also learn about the Seniors’ University Group that works with LLC to promote lifelong learning and organize social and other events. 1:30 pm Philosophy Café on Ethics with Anne van Ransbeek, LLC Philosophy Instructor Stoicism, which was founded in the 3rd century BCE in Greece, is regarded as a way of life aiming at individual peace of mind and collective concord. In this short introduction to Stoic ethics, we find out about the role of rationality in achieving mental and social harmony. We are all invited to discuss the Stoic attitude to the world, which advises against too much attachment, and the Stoic recommendation to live justly, moderately and courageously. 7:30 pm How to Track a Shaman Artist CCE Heritage Lecture with Dr. Carmen Robertson Dr. Carmen Roberson, Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Arts, teaches art history at the University of Regina. Her research on contemporary Indigenous Arts focuses on the art of Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau, constructions of Indigeneity in popular culture and investigating the pedagogy of art histories. In her lecture Carmen will talk about the process, pitfalls and epiphanies of writing two new books Mythologizing Norval Morrisseau: Art and the Colonial Narrative in the Canadian Media and Norval Morrisseau: Art and Life.
