On February 11, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. in the Education Auditorium Wing, Marty Chan will be reading from his recent work. Chan’s hit play, Mom, Dad, I’m Living with a White Girl, is concerned with the challenges presented by inter-racial romances. It has been produced across Canada and on radio, and finished a successful Off Broadway run in New York in 2004. It has been published by Playwrights Canada Press. Chan’s play, The Forbidden Phoenix, tells the story of the Monkey King’s journey west and combines aspects of North American drama and Chinese opera. It won the Gwen Pharis Ringwood Award for Drama. Chan’s other plays include The Bone House, which explores fear, imagination and the deification of serial killers, and Polaroids of Don-both of which received Sterling nominations for best new fringe script. Chan has also written several works for young audiences. His play, A Hero for All, received a Sterling Award, and The Sword and the Stone received a Sterling nomination.
