Playwright Reading – Jordan Tannahill

Jordan Tannahill is a playwright, theatre director and filmmaker. His plays explore themes of gender politics, youth culture, and marginalized identity through the playful combination of documentary elements and magic realism. In 2014 he received the Governor General’s Award for Drama for his book Age of Minority: Three Solo Plays. He also received the John Hirsch Prize for directing, the inaugural Buddies in Bad Times Emerging Artist Award, the Toronto Arts Foundation’s Emerging Artist Award, and was named Canadian Artist of the Year by The Globe and Mail. He has been nominated for 6 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, most recently winning a Dora in 2013 for rihannaboi95, a play performed over internet live-stream. His work is frequently presented at SummerWorks where he has won four awards, including Best Production and Best New Play. He has won the 2011 Inside Out Film Festival’s Emerging Canadian Artist Award, the 2011 Ken McDougall Award for Emerging Directors, and the 2012 Enbridge playRites Award. His live film, Post Eden, was on the Globe and Mail’s Top 10 Favourite Stage Productions of 2013.
