Make plans now to attend “Round Table and Discussion on Bill C-36: Proposed Changes to Canada’s Prostitution Laws” on September 18th, 2014, co-sponsored by the Community Research Unit, Faculty of Arts, and the Provincial Association of Transition Houses and Services of Saskatchewan. The December 20, 2013 Supreme Court of Canada’s decision in Canada v. Bedford (2013 SCC 72) struck down parts of Canada’s existing prostitution legislation. The federal government has since redrafted the laws that were deemed unconstitutional and tabled legislation, Bill C-36, to be taken up in the fall session of Parliament. In this round table and subsequent discussion, representatives from community organizations will advocate different positions in response to Bill C-36. Decriminalization, the Nordic Model, and perspectives from law enforcement will be represented.
