Position Purpose Summary:
The Volunteer Special Events Committee member will work collaboratively with the Special Events and Volunteer Coordinator to plan and deliver successful annual events in the community.
Create awareness and raise critical funds to support the most vulnerable in your community.
Responsibilities
- Enthusiastic about supporting the fundraising success of all events by expanding participation, sponsorship, and donations.
- Well-developed working relationship with staff, committee chair, and other volunteers
- Making connections with community partners and event sponsors
- Approach assigned individual/businesses for solicitation and securing of gifts/donations for the silent auction or prize items
- Assist in recruiting event participants by selling tickets, tables or registrations
- Managing guest/participant experience that will re-engage them with The Salvation Army’s mission
- Logistical support leading up to the event, during and after the event.
- Participate in specific tasks and projects as assigned and provide updates/reports during meetings
- Assist with sourcing and securing of event entertainment
- Assist in promoting events and development of promotional materials
- Assist with the selection of event theme/topic and selection of speakers
- Help coordinate volunteers to help on event day
Time Commitment
- Monthly meetings with increased frequency closer to the event date.
- Required event day and post-event debrief
- Commitment 6months – 1year
Skills:
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Community knowledge and awareness
- Experience in event planning and coordination of volunteers and staff
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate and solve problems with enthusiasm and a positive attitude
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Basic computer skills with access to a computer, phone and internet
- Organizational skills
- Professionalism and confidentiality
- Experience in securing sponsorship and knowledge of fundraising would be considered an asset
- Attention to detail and proven ability to problem solve is required
- A satisfactory criminal record check is required
