Atom Egoyan: Steenbeckett – Meet in the Middle International Symposium

Regina is hosting an exciting project involving renowned Canadian-Armenian filmmaker and lens-based installation artist Atom Egoyan. In collaboration with Strandline Curatorial Collective and Dr. Christine Ramsay (Film, University of Regina), the MacKenzie Art Gallery brings to North America the premiere of Egoyan’s installation Steenbeckett, widely considered his masterpiece. Atom Egoyan: Steenbeckett takes place November 5, 2016-January 1, 2017 as part of the larger series of exhibitions and events entitled Meet in the Middle: Stations of Migration and Memory Between Art and Film (Regina, 2014-2017). MITM investigates the pressing transnational theme of migration and memory, with a special focus on creating a dialogue between Saskatchewan and Armenia, two relatively isolated geographic areas with shared histories of genocidal trauma. The Meet in the Middle International Symposium, at which Egoyan is the featured guest, takes place November 2-5, 2016 at the MacKenzie. While in Regina, Egoyan will deliver a Master Class; engage in conversation with Toronto-based critic Noah Richler on the film Krapp’s Last Tape (2001); introduce the film The Colour of Pomegranates (Sergei Parajanov, 1969); and speak on the symposium panel Atom Egoyan: Steenbeckett with international scholars, curators and critics who will contribute to the forthcoming catalogue (London, UK: Black Dog, 2017).
