When Canadians think of Saskatchewan–if they think of it at all–they think “flat and boring,” or even “flyover country,” something to traverse on their way to Vancouver or Toronto. Saskatchewan is the birthplace of socialism, Medicare, and public funding for the arts–all essential to Canada’s national identity. Please join us next Friday in the Fifth Parallel Gallery in Riddell Centre to celebrate the release of Overlooking Saskatchewan: Minding the Gap, edited by Randal Rogers (Fine Arts) and Christine Ramsay (Film & Media Studies). In this book, twenty writers articulate the challenges and the power of this “in-between” identity and highlight how our province’s citizens lead the way in culture and innovation. Drop on by for a short chat and take in the latest exhibition by U of R student artists! ** Wine and light refreshments will be served. All are welcome. **

When you become detached mentally from yourself and concentrate on helping other people with their difficulties, you will be able to cope with your own more effectively. Somehow, the act of self-giving is a personal power-releasing factor.
