Every year, thousands of Mexican families gather on November 1st and 2nd to commemorate their ancestors and deceased loved ones in a celebration known as “Dia de Muertos” or Day of the Dead. Throughout the country, families adorn an altar in their homes to honour their lost loved ones by cooking their favourite meals and placing items that remind them of the person to whom the altar is dedicated. As part of the 2015 International Education Week, which profiles Mexico as a key-partner country of Canada and the University of Regina this year, UR International is hosting a “Day of the Dead” celebration to embrace the vastness and richness of Mexican traditions and culture. We invite you to an exciting evening to learn about the history of the Day of the Dead, taste Mexican food, experience the art of creating altars, and enjoy a performance of a Mexican singer. Special Guest: Ms. Juana Ruiz (Deputy, Consulate of Mexico in Calgary) Tickets: $10 sold at College West 109 More information: http://www.uregina.ca/international/assets/images/day-of-the-dead.jpg
