The Department of Computer Science is interested in organizing a FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) LEGO League (FLL) in Regina. What is it? A robotics program for 9 to 14 year olds (Grades 4 – 8), which is designed to get children excited about science and technology — and teach them valuable employment and life skills. FLL teams are made up of up to 10 children with at least 1 adult coach. In early Fall, FLL releases a Challenge, which is based on a real-world scientific topic. Teams participate in the Challenge by programming an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified (Project), all guided by the FLL Core Values. We plan to have a community (unofficial) tournament on the U of R campus in January, 2015. The FLL in Regina will require help from kids, coaches, volunteers, and sponsors. If you may be interested in participating in, or helping to develop, a robotics program for kids in Saskatchewan, please attend the information session. Everyone is welcome! Free parking in “M” areas. Questions? Please e-mail info@cs.uregina.ca
