Presented by Dr. Sebastian Sewerin, Postdoctoral Visiting Scholar at the Johnson-Shoyama Graduate School of Public Policy With global governance of climate mitigation being in deep flux, the importance of state-led efforts – on either the national, regional or local level – to curb greenhouse gas emissions is being rediscovered by political scientists. Yet, despite a growing body of research and the production of numerous country-rankings, advances in our understanding of differences between countries are hampered by the limited comparability of findings. But how can we assess countries’ capability to design effective policies? And how can we explain differences in their policy performance? This presentation introduces the conceptual and methodological challenges of comparing countries’ efforts. Dr. Sewerin will also give an overview of his research on comparative environmental politics and will present his current research projects. Growth of the soul is our goal, and there are many ways to encourage that growth, such as through love, nature, healing our wounds, forgiveness, and service. The soul grows well when giving and receiving love. I nourish my soul daily by loving others and being vulnerable to their love. Love is, after all, a verb, an action word, not a noun.
Joan Borysenko, Ph.D.
