John Foster, petroleum economist, will explore the connection between petroleum and the world’s hot spots – a connection that is rarely elaborated by governments or media. Looking at specific hot spots such as Ukraine, Syria and Iran, he will probe geopolitics and resource rivalries, explaining the importance of chessboard thinking and extensive digging. Included will be illustrations from the world today and from his experiences with BP, Petro-Canada, World Bank and Inter-American Development Bank. John Foster, a Canadian expert on the world oil scene, has worked in more than thirty countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America – with the World Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, and two oil companies (BP and Petro-Canada). Born in London England, he graduated from Cambridge University in economics and law, and served in the Royal Navy (Suez). We would like to thank the Canadian International Council (South Saskatchewan) for sponsoring this event.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.
