Beagan is a proud halfbreed of Ntlaka’pamux and Irish “Canadian” heritage. A prolific writer/director/producer/actor, she served as Artistic Director of Native Earth Performing Arts (NEPA) from 2011 to 2013. She has been playwright-in-residence at Cahoots Theatre Projects, NEPA, and the National Arts Centre. Tara’s debut play, Thy Neighbour’s Wife (UnSpun Theatre) won a Dora Award for Outstanding New Play. Ensuing plays included Dreary and Izzy (NEPA at Factory Theatre; Playwrights Canada Press), Here, Boy! (halfbreed productions at Buddies in Bad Times Rhubarb! festival), Quilchena, (halfbreed productions at SummerWorks with Beagan also directing), and Miss Julie: Sheh’mah (KICK Theatre; Playwrights Canada Press), which earned five Dora nominations when it premiered in 2008. Tara was one of four playwrights on the ambitious Theatrefront serial project, The Mill (Playwrights Canada Press). As an actor, Tara worked on CBC radio as the fourth character on Thomas King’s CBC radio show, Dead Dog in the City.
