Small Modular Reactors: Energy Opportunities and Regulatory Views

Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are part of a new generation of nuclear power plant designs whose benefits include less on-site construction, increased containment efficiency and the ability to have greater quality controls. Saskatchewan, with its comparatively small population base, is not ideal for a conventional reactor that can produce upwards of 1000 megawatts of power. However, an SMR that produces anywhere from 10 to 300 megawatts could be a good fit for Saskatchewan’s energy needs.
