Volunteer job descriptions:

Marshaling -Mustering requires 1 to 4 volunteers depending on availability. If we
have sufficient numbers they would also assist with staging
Race marshals are responsible for calling the teams to the designated
marshaling site. These individuals must be personable, well organized and
able to direct people. You will facilitate the paddlers in selecting paddles and
life preservers. You will also encourage the paddlers to assemble as teams
and make sure all their racers are present.

Staging (we can get away with one if they are able to be there all day.
Otherwise we need others to fill in the day, would be nice to have 2 all
day long)
The teams will be staged one race before they are to leave the docks. Each
team will be directed to a designated row marked by a lane number that
corresponds to the race order. They are advised to assemble in the order they
are paddling in and when it is safe to do so they will be directed to the docks
in the order of their boats position on the dock.

Dock Crew a minimum of 6 ideally 8 on the dock at all times
The dock crew will direct the teams to their respective boats. Assist in the
loading and unloading of the paddlers. Help the teams bail excess water from
the boats upon completion of each race.
They will direct the teams to appropriate positions at the dock and secure the
boats upon completion of each race.
These individuals should be comfortable on the floating docks and not afraid
of water. Being able to swim is also a good thing.

Runners  for the duration of the races
We need people to take race results from the timing area to the festival results
board as well as other duties as required by the festival officials and
organizing committee.

Dates: Sunday Aug 27 to Friday Sept 1

Cleaning the boats –
Generally the cleaning of the boats is done the weekend prior to the festival.
This activity actually has enough volunteers because it is one of the activities
that does not interfere with competition. Paddlers from the teams can get this
done with no additional assistance.

Aug 30 to Sept 2
Setup and tear-down crew
Setting up the lanes and docks, moving equipment to the designated areas
(staging area, time keeper’s tent, main festival grounds and paddler’s village).
Sept 1st and 2nd
Moving equipment before and after the races the boats and equipment (life
jackets, paddles). Organization and assistance with paddler’s village and
general festival activities. Runners to post times after each race. (time
keepers tent to main festival area.)
Miscellaneous
Man merchandise sales tents, help with opening and closing ceremonies,
flipping pancakes, advising teams in paddler’s village, and generally
facilitating a pleasant experience for all those attending the festival.
Sept 2nd
Post-race duties include returning the boats to the marina, paddles and life
jackets to the boathouse and other miscellaneous post festival activities.
