What is a Point-In-Time Count?
A Point-in-Time (PiT) Count is a strategy to help determine the extent of homelessness and the characteristics of the homeless population in a community on a given night, or at a single point in time. During the PiT-Count, volunteers take the streets and offer citizens the opportunity to participate in an anonymous housing survey.
When: Wednesday, September 22nd, 2020 – 5:30 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
This time includes volunteer check-in, a meal, training before taking the streets and time after to bring materials back to HQ.
The actual hours Survey Teams will be out conducting surveys in the community will be from 8:00 p.m. -11:00 p.m..
PiT-Count Headquarters: Mâmawêyatitân Centre – Multipurpose Room/Common Area – 3355 6th Ave, Regina
The PiT-Count also takes place in various areas and locations in Regina, Sk.
What are we looking for?
For now, we are looking for four types of volunteers. We need “Team Leaders”, “Survey Volunteers”, “Headquarters Volunteers” in addition to “Supplies Runners”.
Planning with COVID-19 in Mind:
Due to the pandemic, we are planning on doing a scaled down version of the PiT-Count that will require less volunteers than years past. In the past, we had upwards of 230 volunteers, organized in groups of 3-5 volunteers per survey group taking the streets. Here is how we have adapted the PiT-Count for the fall:
- A goal of approx. 150 Volunteers total.
- Survey Teams of 2-3 volunteers.
- Focus solely on priority areas/hot spots.
- Suggesting volunteers wear a mask/ppe that best suits their comfort level.
- Anyone can register as a volunteer, however, we are hoping to leverage the Human Services Sector as much as we can due to their experience working with vulnerable populations during the pandemic.
- Encouraging volunteers to sign up in teams of co-workers.
How Do I Get Involved or Find More Information?
To find more information and/or to register as a volunteer, go to the Flow Community Projects PiT-Count Page and click the “Click Here to Volunteer” Button. This will direct you to an Eventbrite page that you can register as an individual volunteer or as a team.
