This symposium will examine accelerating trends in higher education: neoliberalism, the politics of evidence, and the audit culture. In an age in which value is often equated with accountancy, we will examine the place in the academy for public intellectualism, community-engagement, Indigenous epistemologies, and how the impact of our scholarship is, and ought to be, justly assessed. Questions to be explored include: -What counts as scholarship and why? -How do we achieve accountability in an age of accountancy? -How do we measure research impact, (i.e., journal impact factor vs community and policy impact)? -Impact for whom? -Who and how do we determine whose evidence and what research is legitimate? -What can be done? How do we effect change to university practices? Registration now open: $275 See website at: http://www.politicsofevidence.ca for complete details.

In my opinion, he only may be truly said to live and enjoy his being who is engaged in some laudable pursuit, and acquires a name by some illustrious action, or useful art.
