Guest lecture by Dr. Phillip Vannini, Professor and Canada Research Chair in Innovative Learning and public ethnography in the School of Communication and Culture at Royal Roads University. Ethnography is the in-depth study of peoples’ ways of life based on participation, observation, and empathetic reflection by researchers. Public ethnography moves research findings out of the academy by sharing it with the public through a variety of mediums, such as video and performance. Dr. Phillip Vannini is a leader in moving public ethnography “towards reflexive, sensuous, interpretive, narrative, arts-informed, and more-than-representational qualitative research” (Vannini & Milne, 2014, forthcoming). He works on innovations in knowledge dissemination to make research accessible and available to non-academics and through a variety of media. Free parking in Lot 14 M area.
