Playright Reading – Rick Chafe

Chafe’s plays have been produced by theatre companies in eastern as well as western Canada, including The National Arts Centre, The Great Canadian Theatre Company, Alberta Theatre Projects, Persephone Theatre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, The Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Theatre Projects Manitoba, and Shakespeare in the Ruins. His plays include The Odyssey, Beowolf, Zac and Speth, the musical Strike! co-written with Danny Schur and Shakespeare’s Dog – adapted from Leon Rooke’s Governor General’s Award-winning novel. His play The Secret Mask was a finalist for the 2014 Governor General’s Award for Drama and winner of the first Chris Johnson Award for Best Play by a Manitoba Playwright. This coming March It will be produced in Regina as part of the Globe Theatre main stage season. Also this March Chafe’s newest play, Marriage: a Demolition in Two Acts will premiere at Prairie Theatre Exchange in Winnipeg. Chafe has been nominated for the Siminovitch Prize for Theatre and is a recipient of the Manitoba Arts Council Major Arts Grant. Chafe is the co-writer of two screenplays currently in pre-production, and he has written for television, documentary, educational video formats.
