Opportunity Description:

Volunteers are the community drivers in every CIBC Run for the Cure site in Canada. Together with a committee of like-minded individuals, you will raise funds for breast cancer research and support programs through the Canadian Cancer Society CIBC Run for the Cure. This year’s Run will take place on Sunday, October 6, 2019.

Planning and organizing the Run takes time, passion and creative thinking. In partnership with volunteers and staff, you will be part of something truly extraordinary in your community.

This is a leadership position and dates and times listed are placeholders and do not reflect the specific hours or dates required for the position. This position begins in April 2019 and carries through to November 2019. Please review the detailed description below prior to applying. Volunteers must be at least 19 years of age to apply.

What’s Involved:

As the Volunteer Run Director your time will be spent managing and empowering your committee to rally support and participants, as well as driving logistical elements of the CIBC Run for the Cure.

While collaborating with organization’s staff, you will be tasked with creating a community engagement plan and engaging the entire committee in understanding and achieving the revenue goal for the event. Along with your committee, you will develop and execute a site plan, organize a 1km and 5km route, and recruit a team of volunteers to support all local Run activities. Safety is a priority during the planning process for you and your team. You and your team will work together to maximize participation, drive fundraising and offset costs through sponsorship and participant fundraising.

You will lead meetings, motivate your committee, and act as a local ambassador for the organization. You will assist the organization’s staff in identifying vacant committee positions and work with your fellow committee members to fill any voids. You will keep the Run site’s fundraising goal top of mind by working with committee members to ensure tasks (template provided) are completed in a timely and professional manner

You will have the constant support of the organization’s staff who will answer your questions, provide guidance and assistance when necessary, and connect you with other Run Leaders.

Time Commitment:

• Attendance at the annual Run Director Training Conference in Toronto in the beginning of May (costs covered)
• Monthly committee meetings from May to July and biweekly in August and September
• Weekly tasks averaging 6-8 hours per week, depending on the scope of tasks and time of year
• Attendance and leadership role at pre-Run events/opportunities
• In person availability from October 3rd to October 6th
• Training will be provided throughout the Run season in the form of webinars and conference calls

The ideal Volunteer Run Director has/is:

• Demonstrated success in a leadership role with team building experience
• A master planner, ability to delegate and provides clear direction and support
• A passion for the breast cancer cause and event planning
• Experience in volunteerism, personal or professional fundraising, sales, and/or communications, and event execution
• Strong project management skills with ability to anticipate problems and develop appropriate solution
• Looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity
• Excellent computer skill
• Flexibility during business hours to respond to emails and phone calls as needed
• Agrees to the organization’s Waiver and Code of Conduct for Volunteers
• Has a valid driver’s licence and access to a vehicle,
• Ability to perform light physical duties such as carrying boxes, and pitch in as needed
• Must be 19 years or older
