Brian Stockton – Instructor, Film Department Adventures in Micro-Budget Filmmaking: The Sabbatical Brian Stockton worked on his feature film comedy The Sabbatical from 2013 to 2015. The recently completed film was shot on a micro budget using low-cost digital tools and was improvised by the actors from a detailed outline. The goal was to create a funny, engaging film that didn’t necessarily look like a low-budget film. The project suggests it’s possible to make an engaging film with high production values on a meager budget. Bio: Brian Stockton is a filmmaker and educator who works in a variety of genres including animation, documentary and drama. He holds an MFA from York University and was a director resident at Norman Jewison’s Canadian Film Centre. His recent focus has been on humourous autobiographical films including his acclaimed Saskatchewan Trilogy (2002-2006), and the one-hour documentary My Dinner with Generation X (2010). His latest project is the feature film comedy The Sabbatical (2015). He currently teaches film production at his alma mater, the University of Regina.
