Opportunity Description:

REALM is looking for gentle leaders to facilitate a small group of volunteers to work side by side with a person with a high level of physical disability to help them achieve their goals. Each group of volunteers is called a volunteer support network, the person with a disability is the Centre, and you would be the Facilitator. Facilitators receive a monthly honorarium.

Goals and priorities are identified by the Centre. You will connect the dots to help the Centre reach goals. There is no personal care or IT involved. The time commitment is 3-5 hours per month. The sky is the limit for goals and priorities but can include fundraising, increased social connection, advocating for better supports, opportunities to improve quality of life. It is different for everyone!

As a Facilitator you must be able to meet with the Centre at least once per month and with the whole network once per month. Meetings are typically evenings or weekends. Throughout the month you will work closely with the Centre to make network plans, decisions, schedule meetings, follow-up with volunteers, oversee progress, trouble shoot obstacles, and focus on building and sustaining a strong support network. Communication is key to success.

A successful Facilitator will be a collaborative, gentle leader, a strong communicator, flexible and patient, able to follow a set process, work from a place of loving kindness, and believe wholeheartedly that people with disabilities have the right to determine their own lives. A Facilitator must understand and encourage healthy boundaries for everyone on the network.

REALM provides on the job training, group training, network building tools and processes, and on-going support.

The successful candidate must have a computer, printer, electronic email, internet, and word processing software. You must also have access to transportation to attend meetings at locations determined by the Centre and/or REALM. For more information visit http://www.realmfoundation.ca. Please provide a cover letter with your resume by October 20, 2022 to c.bailey@sasktel.net.
