Celebrating Diversity and History Through Community Action

Whether you are taking the daily commute_mode, running errands, or braving the latest weather, the diversity of Regina is visible all around us. June 27 is Canadian Multiculturalism Day, a time to recognize the rich variety of backgrounds, traditions, and voices that make our region so vibrant.

This celebration carries deep historical roots. In 1971, Canada became the first country in the world to adopt multiculturalism as an official policy. This landmark decision aimed to preserve cultural freedom and honor the unique contributions of diverse ethnic groups. Over the decades, this commitment was strengthened by the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the Canadian Multiculturalism Act, reinforcing the values of equity, inclusion, and mutual respect.

Building Bridges in Our Neighbourhoods

Every neighbourhood across Saskatchewan benefits when people of diverse experiences come together. From sharing public spaces to learning about each other as we explore Regina, our differences are our greatest strength. As proud Reginans, we know that building an inclusive, welcoming society takes active participation.

At Volunteer Regina, we believe that giving back is one of the most powerful ways to bridge cultures. Volunteering creates shared goals, breaks down barriers, and fosters genuine connections among neighbors. It offers a unique chance to step outside of our daily routines, learn from the people who share our community, and actively call out discrimination and exclusion.

Get Involved and Spread the Word

Multiculturalism is a living part of our everyday lives in SK. By dedicated action, we can help ensure that everyone feels safe, valued, and included in our schools, workplaces, and social spaces.

Spread the Word! Share this post using #VolunteerYQR and invite your friends, family, and neighbors to discover meaningful volunteer opportunities. Together, we can make a lasting impact!
