About the YMCA of Greater Toronto
The YMCA of Greater Toronto is a dynamic charity offering opportunities for personal growth, community involvement and leadership. Our 2010-2020 strategic plan Strong Start Great Future calls upon our Association to invest in young people across their life stages to deliver on our vision of ensuring our communities will be home to the healthiest children, teens and young adults. This community health strategy includes a significant role for adults and older adults.
Mirroring the region’s diversity, the YMCA offers a variety of programs responding to the needs of the community, including employment and essential skills, education, newcomer programs, youth outreach and intervention, fitness, sports and aquatics, international programs, child care and camps.
Program Description: Next Stop Canada Youth (NSCY) is a program that provides online settlement support, learning opportunities, and mentorship to pre-arrival youth ages 12 to 19 who are destined for Canada. This online program helps overseas youth prepare for immigration by providing them with the information, knowledge, and resources needed to quickly adapt and integrate into Canadian society.
Our mission is to stop impaired driving and to support victims of this violent crime.
The Youth Cannabis Awareness Program (YCAP) offers free programming to youth aged 12 to 24, as well as adults (parents/guardians and professionals) involved in the lives of youth. Informed by protective factors contributing to youth mental health, YCAP provides a multi-faceted approach to increase knowledge and skills supporting positive youth development.
YCAP takes a harm reduction approach and does not make value judgments regarding recreational cannabis use. The program aims to minimize risks associated with cannabis use by providing youth, and adults involved in youth’s lives, with the most accurate and unbiased information.
YCAP is a free education and prevention initiative funded through Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program and delivered by the YMCA of Greater Toronto across Canada.
The Shoebox Project for Women is a registered charity that collects and distributes gift-filled Shoeboxes to local women impacted by homelessness across Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
We aim to foster safe, supportive and inclusive communities by facilitating compassionate gestures of kindness between our supporters and local women experiencing homelessness.
For women who have been displaced from their homes and estranged from their families, special occasions can be particularly challenging. Often, women report feeling disconnected from society, invisible and alone. A Shoebox gift is a powerful reminder for a woman that she has not been forgotten and that she remains a valued and respected member of her community.
For those giving gifts, The Shoebox Project is a tangible and creative opportunity to give back directly to someone in your very own community. It’s a small, simple gesture of kindness that has an immediate, positive impact on the woman who receives it.
The Regina Sexual Assault Centre has been around since 1977. Our services include counselling, public education, a 24/7 anonymous crisis line, policy advocacy, and accompaniment to the police and hospital. We offer our services to folk of all genders from the age of 5 and up free of cost, with the vision to reduce the risk of abusive behaviour and sexualize violence through education, prevention, and support in our community of Regina and surrounding area. The Centre currently employs three full-time Counsellors, one full-time Administrative Assistant, one full-time Public Education and Outreach Coordinator, and a full-time Executive Director. Counselling staff have Master's level education and are overseen by a clinical supervisor. Volunteer board members oversee the operations of the Centre, and approximately fifty five volunteer advocates work on the sexual assault crisis line.
CityKidz helps increase resilience and inspire dreams for children in low-income communities by providing inspirational experiences and nurturing relationships. 1 in 5 Regina children live in poverty and our North Central Community is one of the poorest and most violent in Canada. Many families are broken and many live in poverty, often from generations of addiction and abuse. We help break this cycle by helping at-risk kids leave the path of least resistance and onto a path of hope/prosperity.
SOFIA House is a second stage housing facility that provides safe housing and support for families trying to escape violent homes. Through our on-site counseling services and housing capabilities we live the meaning of SOFIA: Support Of Families In Affliction.
We deliver innovative programs and powerful advocacy that empower people impacted by blindness to live their dreams and tear down barriers to inclusion.
Kids Help Phone is Canada’s only 24/7 e-mental health service offering free, confidential support to young people in English and French.
We began in 1989 as a unique telephone counselling service, launched to provide free, accessible support to any young person reaching out from coast to coast to coast.
Our focus was supporting young people experiencing abuse, but almost immediately, young people let us know they needed more from the service than one focus and one way to reach us.
For over 30 years, we’ve evolved our response and offerings. We concentrate on staying relevant to youth, recognizing the complexity of issues they face, and we help to ensure our professional counsellors and volunteer crisis responders are ready to address young people’s continuum of emotional and mental health needs, from crisis situations to the everyday concerns of growing up.

- Identifying local recreation and community needs in its broadest sense and make provisions to fulfill these needs.
- Coordinating volunteers and paid instructors in conducting local recreation programs.
- Providing a means of communication to Lakeview area residents.
- Evaluating programs and their worth to the Lakeview community.
- Working with the City of Regina and the South Zone Recreation Board to provide leisure, sport, and wellness programs and enhance parks spaces.
- Effectively administering all Association funds for the betterment of recreation within the community.
- Operating and administering social events for the community.
- Examining any matters that could affect the residents of Lakeview in any social, economic, environmental, or political way.
The Regina Food Bank serves those most vulnerable in our community by providing programs and service directly, and through partnerships in the areas of food provision, essential skills development, and connections to community supports and opportunities.
We are neighbors feeding neighbors. These neighbors are our clients. In this city we rally around each other. We always have. This bond is the heartbeat of Regina.
The staff, volunteers, and donors of the Regina Food Bank feed hope. We do this with food – the ultimate connector that brings people together. We restore dignity, health and hope for our clients. We also build community – rallying the community to make Regina a more fair, caring, and dynamic city.
