Category: Live MusicDates: July 25, 2015 - July 25, 2015
This show is now SOLD OUT. To have your name added to the waiting list for tickets please call our Box Office at 1-800-555-3189.
With a Cuban-American lead singer, garage band ferocity, an intense live show and a deep love of both romance and pure country to go with the polyrhythmic beats The Mavericks were raised on, they were unlikely superstars. Yet their raucous sound broke ground for the country format with hits like “Here Comes The Rain,” “Crying Shame,” “Dance The Night Away” and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down” and scored the group industry awards, including a Grammy, in prestigious categories like Vocal Group and Album of the Year.
The band broke up in 2004 and Raul Malo, Paul Deakin, Eddie Perez and Jerry Dale McFadden went in different directions until the 2013 release of In Time and subsequent touring. Their first album and major tour in nearly 20 years topped many critics’ Best Of lists, including American Songwriter, The Boston Globe, NPR, Los Angeles Times and New York Magazine.
Making magic in the studio and delivering their genre-defying sound to live audiences over the last two decades, The Mavericks will release Mono on February 17, 2015.
Songs: “Here Comes the Rain”, “Crying Shame”, “Dance The Night Away”, and “All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down”.
Tickets on sale February 18 for Players Club Members, February 20 for general public.
Public Engagement and the Politics of Evidence in an Age of Neoliberalism and Audit Culture (University of Regina)
Category: Other EventDates: July 23, 2015 - July 23, 2015
This symposium will examine accelerating trends in higher education: neoliberalism, the politics of evidence, and the audit culture. In an age in which value is often equated with accountancy, we will examine the place in the academy for public intellectualism, community-engagement, Indigenous epistemologies, and how the impact of our scholarship is, and ought to be, justly assessed. Questions to be explored include: -What counts as scholarship and why? -How do we achieve accountability in an age of accountancy? -How do we measure research impact, (i.e., journal impact factor vs community and policy impact)? -Impact for whom? -Who and how do we determine whose evidence and what research is legitimate? -What can be done? How do we effect change to university practices? Registration now open: $275 See website at: www.politicsofevidence.ca for complete details.

This is a community-engaged conference (academic and practical) planned by a local body of representatives from Luther College, Campion College, First Nations University of Canada, Regina Multifaith Forum, Multifaith Saskatchewan and Regina Police Service, under the auspices of the North American Interfaith Network (NAIN). The theme takes us through local, national and international considerations of what faiths have to offer us in teachings about reconciliation and deep listening, designed to engage us in the question of how we work within or alongside people from religious traditions in pursuit of social justice issues such as reconciliation, gender justice and issues of sexual orientation, issues of peace, environmental concerns and more. Skid Row (Casino Regina)
Category: Live MusicDates: July 16, 2015 - July 16, 2015
The first rebellion started in 1986.
New Jersey kids, punk and metal attitude, determined to conquer the world. All for one, banded together with single-minded purpose. The battlefield was the stage, the songs their arsenal in an us-against-them musical coup d'état.
Top Ten singles. Gold and multi-platinum sales. No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. The world was theirs, the rebellion won, until there was nothing left to fight for — so they fought each other. Following an ill-advised South American tour in 1996, the band was finished. But the core camaraderie never died. Snake Sabo, Scotti Hill and Rachel Bolan vowed that SKID ROW wouldn't fade into rock and roll obscurity.
Skid Row returned to the big stage — literally — opening for Kiss in 2000. Exhilarated to tour with the heroes who rallied them in the first place, the band was reinvigorated by being underdogs who needed to come out fighting to prove themselves.
“When we put the band back together, we needed to reintroduce Skid Row as relevant without relying too much on past success,” explains bassist Rachel Bolan. “We wrote songs and hit the road. We sunk our heart and soul into it, letting people know we weren't doing it for lack of anything better to do.”
Their rebellion continues. United World Rebellion starts now.

Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers (Casino Regina)
Category: Live MusicDates: July 9, 2015 - July 9, 2015
Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers have been dazzling audiences since 1955 when Larry was six, Steve was four and Rudy was two. Since those days the road that the trio has followed has taken them to concert stages all over the world and has seen their records top the charts and touch the lives of fans from eight to eighty.
After performing together as children, Larry studied law at the University of Houston. In 1971 he auditioned for The Imperials, Elvis' backup group. He didn’t get the job, but met Dottie West who was the opening act for the legendary Jimmy Dean who became one of Larry's oldest and best friends. Dottie was initially taken with Larry's resemblance to Nashville songwriter, Mickey Newbury.
Through Dottie, Larry met Kris Kristofferson who became a champion of Gatlin's talent as a writer and singer. Kristofferson introduced Larry to Fred Foster at Monument Records which resulted in a contract with the record label. His first album, The Pilgrim, was released later that year. Johnny Cash wrote the liner notes for the album and dubbed him "The Pilgrim" which is what he called Larry until the day he died. Steve and Rudy moved to Nashville in 1975 and teamed up with brother Larry to form Larry Gatlin & the Gatlin Brothers.
In addition to being inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, the trio was nominated for awards by the Country Music Association, the Academy of Country Music and the Music City News Awards, among others.
Songs: "All The Gold in California”, "Broken Lady”, "I Don’t Wanna Cry", "I Just Wish You Were Someone I Love", "Statues Without Hearts", "Love Is Just A Game", "Houston (Means I'm One Day Closer To You)" and "Night Time Magic".

Category: Live MusicDates: July 2, 2015 - July 2, 2015
Over the course of a long and illustrious career now spanning more than 40 years, the pride of Lynn Lake, Manitoba has covered more terrain than the Franklin expedition. From early beginnings as a folk-based singer/songwriter playing the coffeehouses of Toronto's famed Yorkville scene in the early '70s, Tom Cochrane became the driving force in adventurous rockers Red Rider prior to achieving massive international success (over six million copies sold worldwide and diamond-sales status at home) with breakthrough 1991 album Mad Mad World and its anthemic hit "Life Is A Highway."
Since then, he has continued to create potent new material while cementing his place in the hearts of Canadians through crowd-pleasing performances from coast to coast and his unwavering work on behalf of humanitarian causes and organizations. An Order of Canada recipient and Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee, Cochrane has won eight Juno awards and numerous other industry honours, including the 2013 Allan Waters Humanitarian Award and a Grammy nomination.
To quote the title of one of the songs on his feverishly anticipated new record, Tom Cochrane is now "Back In The Game." True, the Canadian rock icon has never stopped creating or performing, but Take It Home is his first album of new material since 2006's No Stranger. Happily, Take It Home (to be released on February 10, 2015) reveals an artist still at the top of his game, exploring new lyrical and sonic terrain while remaining grounded in the values that have made him one of Canada's most beloved rock 'n rollers ever.
Songs: “Boy Inside The Man”, “Life is A Highway”, “Big League”, “White Hot”, “Wish You Well”

Category: Live MusicDates: June 25, 2015 - June 25, 2015
Marty Stuart is a five time Grammy-winner, platinum recording artist, Grand Ole Opry star, country music archivist, Southern culture historian, photographer, musician, songwriter, TV show host, charismatic force of nature, and country music fan.
Since starting out singing gospel as a child, Stuart has spent over four decades celebrating American roots music with a missionary's zeal. His teenage years on tour with bluegrass legend Lester Flatt in the '70s were followed by six years in Johnny Cash's band during the '80s and a chart-topping tenure as a solo artist in the '90s. The turn of the century saw Stuart looking inward to make deeply felt records paying homage to his love of vintage gospel, his Native American passions, and as always, his core -- foot-stompin', tail-shakin', honky tonkin', rockin' hillbilly music. His latest musical oeuvre is ably supported by the coolest cats in Nashville - his backing band, The Fabulous Superlatives: guitarist Kenny Vaughan, drummer Harry Stinson, and bassist Paul Martin. His latest album is Tear the Woodpile Down.
Songs: “Tempted”, “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’”, “Hillbilly Rock”, “This One’s Gonna Hurt You”, “Crying, Waiting, Hoping”, “High On A Mountain Top”, “and “Burn Me Down”.

Susan Aglukark (Casino Regina)
Category: Live MusicDates: June 20, 2015 - June 20, 2015
Susan Aglukark is one of Canada’s most unique and most honored artists. An Inuk from Arviat, Nunavut, Susan has been walking in a tension between two worlds, a defining note in her remarkable career. She was a rare and exotic presence in the mainstream music world—an Inuk woman, a modern woman, a strong woman with something important to say is sometimes very rare in the entertainment industry — Susan embodied pure, graceful honesty and strength. As her songs climbed the charts, her stories and her candor about the struggles of the Inuit and Aboriginal communities, and her bravery as she opened up about her own anger and struggle won her an audience beyond that of most pop artists.
With eight albums to her credit, Susan Aglukark is Artic Canada’s first ever Juno Award winning Inuk singer/songwriter. Susan has won 3 Juno awards and received the Order of Canada in 2005. Susan has performed for HRH Queen Elizabeth, Jean Chretien, Brian Mulroney, Nelson Mandela, Billy Graham, and the Countess of Wessex.
